Star Wars Rebels

Last month I finished watching at Netflix the Star Wars Rebels animation. At least I thought it has ended, but in truth the fourth season still not arrived at Netflix. It’s great news, there is a little bit more of Ezra, Chopper, Hera, Kanan and Sabine!

This hole crew was produced in computer animation by Lucasfilm and Lucasfilm Animation and was exhibit at Disney XD. Besides Disney channel, the three first seasons are available at Netflix. In Brazil, we still don’t have the last season, if you don’t have it too maybe it will be available any time soon since the seasons were not acquired simultaneously.

As for the chronology, the animation is set 14 years after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, and 5 years before Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. Considering the other animation Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Rebels is years later. In this time then, we have the empire domain, the hunt of the last Jedi, Darth Vader and the rising of the Rebel Alliance.

In the cartoon, we see some familiar faces from the movies like Darth Vader and from The Clone Wars animation, like Ahsoka. These characters only have few apparitions and are not the main attraction. However, don’t worry, you are going to love the crew of Ghost, a group of rebels that actually become a family and give their best to make the difference in the fight against the empire.

Talking a little bit more about the plot, at first season we have as Ghost crew, the pilot Hera; Kanan, the Jedi; Sabine, an ex-bounty haunter; Zeb, an warrior who the got his home planet destroyed by the Empire and Chopper, the droid that was rescued by Hera. In a mission at planet Lothal, they found Ezra, a thief back then, and accidentally he end up joining the group. Ezra manifests the force and Kanan, believing in his potential and character becomes his Jedi master.

My favorites are Chopper and Zeb. Chopper has a great personality: grumpy, prankish and stubborn. But above all very loyal and very smart too, proving himself useful at the missions. Zeb is one of the last of his kind, the Lasats.  Beyond loving a chance of kick some Stormtrooper ass, he is an honorable warrior.

Mostly, in each episode we follow a mission with the goal of helping the rebel cause. The episodes are fun but at the same time, the stories are mature and teach us good life lessons. I would say that it is an animation for young and adults. There wouldn’t be much against children watching, since it doesn’t show strong violence scenes, but much of the stories they wouldn’t comprehend.

Almost every episode has 22 minutes of duration so, for those who just have a little free time it’s a good option to have fun. For those with more spare time you can do a marathon.

I loved the show and was sad it has ended. But now that I discovered that is another season I am so glad.

The Star Wars Fans can’t miss it and you are going to like even if you don’t know all the details of this saga by heart, just like me and my poor memory. You will understand the story even without knowing what race is some character or how the Empire arose, so, don’t worry.

If you also didn’t watch the Clone Wars animation you should start with it, then you are going to follow the chronological order of the shows. Besides, its reviews are pretty good, I’m anxious to watch it.

To finish, here are some curiosities:

♦ According to writer/producer Simon Kinberg, once it was decided that Darth Vader would appear on the show, the first thing they did was to make sure James Earl Jones, who’s voiced the character since 1977, was available.

♦ The Imperial Troop Transports (ITT) first seen in “Fighter Flight” is based on a vehicle from the original Kenner toy line from the late 1970s. (Want to know more about the story of these toys? Watch Toy that Made Us, an original Netflix)

♦ According to Dave Filoni (member of the animation crew and director of Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie), Chopper is the complete opposite of R2-D2. Where R2 is loyal like a dog, Chopper can be selfish and a pain in the butt like a cat.

♦ Like all the “Star Wars” films, the series includes the Wilhelm Scream (Never hear about it? 😱  Then visit this post here that I will fill you in).

♦ Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa were born the day after the formation of the Galactic Empire and Ezra Bridgers birth, which makes them a day younger than Ezra Bridger. In Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Luke, Leia and Ezra are 53 years old.

♦  The droid Chopper’s name is derived from his model number C1-10P. By combining the ‘1-1’ into an ‘H’ and substituting ‘O’ for ‘0’ it become CHOP.

♦  Several different concepts were considered during pre-production of this series. Dave Filoni proposed to do a series without Force users and focus on fighter pilots. Eventually Carrie Beck’s idea of focusing on group of heroes that were always on the run while trying helping others, like Esquadrão Classe A (1983) was chosen. In some versions, Kanan had a robot arm, Zeb was an Ithorian (Hammerhead) instead of a concept Wookiee, and Hera went from being a plump matriarch to being a young girl and back to the mother of the group, but this time thin.

And we are done for today, may the Force be with you! Your opinion please leave 😋
